Huang Qing’an: Studies from Life

The solo exhibit offers unique depictions of life within the countries of Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand and Tibet.  Each piece was painted on location and demonstrates the intimacy between the stoic Buddhist lifestyle of these nations’ people and the grittiness of the aged scenes surrounding them.

“For a painter,” says Qing’an,  “the best way to explore the world is to draw it from life: to paint its temples and its towers, its statues and its wells, its streets and its people; to watch the crowds of people running through the rain, and the herds of cattle ambling home at sunset.”
